Hello there fellow deviants,

It's been a looong while and I apologize for not keeping up with replies or answers to your sweet comments and all the faves. To all my followers: Thank you so much for sticking aroundHug !
You know how it is, sometimes life happens and you suddenly realize that you're stuck in the mill, you've stopped doing what you used to love and the days flow in and out and only leave that stale taste of dull routine in your mouth.
I just quit a job that basically sucked all the life out of me, hence the status about Zombies. The stress left me so drained and killed off creativity to such an extent that I didn't even think about drawing. Not a good sign. So I quit to refocus professionally, which helped a lot. I feel more energetic, more creative, hey I even got my social life back, yaaay! Right now I'm working on a few portraits, two of which belong to a universe that I've only recently explored and whose characters haven't been featured here yet, so I'm excited about what you'll think :happybounce: .

It's good to be back!

that final 20%

How do YOU do it? It's relatively easy to get to the point where about 80% of a picture is finished, you can clearly see where it's headed, you *could* say it's done but there are still 20% missing for it to be really perfect. And achieving these remaining 20% is one of the most arduous, strenuous tasks ever. At least, to me. After a few hours, I just don't perceive those tiny (or sometimes not so tiny) flaws anymore. Sometimes my boyfriend points something out to me that immediately becomes patently obvious, but I didn't notice before. So how do you do it?
Do you put the piece away for a few days and then get back to work with a fresh look at it?
Or do you just fine-tune it relentlessly until it's the way you want it?
Do you show the unfinished piece to friends or family to help you point out where improvements could be made?

I'd be interested to hear your experiences and opinions on this :)!

Finally

Liara is finally done. Sorry for the long wait! The past few weeks have been pretty busy - part work, part not work, such as the Destination Star Trek Convention in Germany, where I got to meet Brent Spiner and Casey Biggs ^^. Needless to say, it was terribly awesome and exciting.
Next Mass Effect portrait is already in the making :)!

Just wanted to throw a big THANK YOU out there to all of you who viewed my work, commented and favorited - you made me feel very welcome in this community and fueled my inspiration Hug ! In hindsight I wonder why I didn't become active here earlier, I love this!

Enough with the sentiment, off to work - Liara's next Clap !

Jen is busy!!!

I'm terribly busy these days, since I started my new job at a local clinic two weeks ago... when I come home in the evening I practically just stay awake to make me something to eat and then drop dead into bed at 9pm. I try to get my drawing done on the weekends, but even those are filled with job-related obligations and further education. So, please be patient with me, I hope I will be able to make up for the wait ;)

PS: sorry for the lame IT crowd reference in the title, but... it's just so good!
